First off—welcome. Reaching out for therapy and opening up to someone new takes courage, and it’s never a small decision.
A lot of the struggles we face would be easier if we could just change the world around us—but the truth is, we don’t always have that power. What we can do is shift how you relate to yourself and the world. In therapy, I’ll support you in making the changes that are within reach and finding ways to move through what’s harder to control. We’ll look at what’s been getting in your way, make space for the feelings that come with it, and find strategies that feel more aligned with your values and needs.
Clients often tell me that this kind of work helps them feel more grounded, more like themselves, and more able to meet life with compassion and clarity. I believe mental health isn’t just about reducing symptoms—it’s about building resilience, connecting to your whole self, and being able to face the world with presence, even when things are hard.
To achieve this, I use several evidence-based treatments:
Please note I do not offer full-model DBT; I happily work with clients who are attending DBT skills groups.
Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) and the Gottman Method (for relationships)
I am also informed by feminist therapy, multicultural therapy, systems theory, and narrative therapy.
I believe:
In Health at Every Size (HAES)
That anyone can recover
That Black Lives Matter
That bodily autonomy and consent are basic rights; I am pro-choice
In comprehensive, consent-based sex education
These values are reflected throughout my professional work and in my personal life.
I am direct and honest about my own identities and the impact they can have in the therapeutic relationship; this begins with consistently acknowledging and remediating the white, patriarchal, Westernized, colonized history of modern therapy. I carefully balance the fact that I must always be learning with my clients' need for skilled care; while I certainly learn from my clients, I will not put you in a position where you need to educate me.
I believe that culturally competent therapy is a minimum standard. I am committed to treating identity and oppression with the humility and gravity they deserve. Please feel welcome to ask me about this when we meet.
